Healthy and Speedy Breakfast Ideas!

by Joanna

You’ve heard it before and I’ll say it again: having a healthy breakfast is a great way to start your day off right!  A healthy breakfast is linked to many health benefits including weight control, improved concentration, and more strength and energy.  The problem for many of us seems to be that we have lots to do in the morning and little time to do it in.  It’s easy to grab a sugary pop tart or refined flour bagel which have little nutritional value and increase hunger again mid-morning.  Healthy choices can be made easy too though.  Read on for some ideas and pick one out for tomorrow morning!

-   Spread natural peanut butter on 100% whole grain or Ezekiel bread.
-
Make a smoothie. Blend together your favorite healthy ingredients such as
fresh fruit, spinach, milk, and low fat yogurt. You can even add some
protein powder. Check out this recipe blog for more ideas.
-
Go for whole grain cereal. Look for less than 5 grams of sugar and at least
4 grams of fiber in each serving. For more information, check out

The Skinny on Breakfast Cereals.
-   Try a whole grain wrap for breakfast!  Wrap up cold turkey or chicken and
    a little cheese to go.
-
Cook an egg and throw it on a whole grain English muffin.
-   Don’t forget about fresh fruit like apples, grapes, and berries. To add some
protein, have a couple egg whites or a handful of nuts along with it.

WebMD recommends to “strive for five,” that is to have a breakfast with at least 5 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein.  This will help to fuel your morning activities and keep you satisfied until lunch.  Check out some of their Healthy Breakfast Ideas and Recipes here.   Most of us are dehydrated in the morning so remember to drink plenty of water throughout your morning
as well.

What do you have for breakfast when you’re in a rush?
