Who’s training for the Eau Claire marathon/half marathon/relay/5k? For those of you brave enough to run outside in the subzero temps, I am in awe. For the rest of you sticking with the treadmill until the spring thaw, here are some workouts you can do to shake it up and shake off boredom.

Speed it up
I don’t know what to call this besides 5…3, 2, 1: run slowly for 5 minutes, then run a little faster for 3 minutes, then a little faster for 2, then nearly sprint for 1 m
inute. Repeat as many times as you would like.
For me, breaking my run up into quarter mile and half mile increments keeps me focused and engaged, try a fast 400 meter run, then jog the rest of the mile. Repeat for 3-5 miles.
If you listen to music, speed up during the refrain of the song you’re listening to and go a bit slower during the verses.
Just remember, your reward will be running outside around beautiful Eau Claire in May so put in the time, effort and enjoy the challenge!
