The Hungry Hunter’s Stir Fry

by Sarah

Hunting season is upon us! Like me, you may have a hunter or two in your family. It can be an exciting time of year, and it’s always great to get some extra meat in the freezer. But also like me, you may start to run out of new ideas for preparing it. This is a recipe that I tried at home for the first time a few weeks ago. It was Hungry Hunter and Husband approved!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb venison steaks, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1-2 bags of frozen mixed or stir fry vegetables
  • 2 cups brown rice (makes 4 cups when prepared)

Stir Fry Sauce Ingredients:

  • 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • ½ teaspoon of ginger

Preparation:

  • Make one batch of stir fry sauce and place it in a Ziploc bag with the cut venison. Place in the fridge for 1-2 hours to marinate.
  • Once marinated, place contents of the bag into a slow cooker and cook on low for about 6 hours or until tender. If short on time, you may add your frozen vegetables on top if you wish to have them cooked beforehand.
  • If you like your vegetables more crunchy, bake your frozen vegetables on a sheet pan at 350 degrees for about 20-30 minutes or until tender (can poke a fork through them).
  • Prepare rice as indicated on the packaging.
  • If desired, make another batch of stir fry sauce so that you can add a little extra flavor to your dish if you wish.

Put it all together and voila! Venison stir fry!
