It is not summer until I have had a delicious and juicy watermelon! We are in peak watermelon season right now! I absolutely love getting a juicy and flavorful watermelon and incorporating it into my days in the summer time! Watermelon is a great summertime snack because it is low calorie, hydrating and full of fiber! It’s a quick snack that tastes amazing!
To me, there is nothing more disappointing than getting home and slicing open a watermelon, only to reveal a thick rind and little to no flavor. This summer I have been on a mission to figure out just how to pick the best possible watermelon without having to cut it open, and I'm happy to share my findings with you!
- The watermelon should feel heavy for its size.
- Watermelons develop a yellow spot where they were laying on the ground during growing, check that this spot is a creamy yellow. This is a good indication that the watermelon is ripe!
- Tap the watermelon, it should have a deep hollow sound. If it is not ripe or over ripe, it will give a dull hollow sound.
And that’s it! What are your tricks for picking the perfect watermelon?
