Four Tips for Staying Motivated Through The Holidays

by Sarah

It's the most wonderful time of the year! The holidays are right around the corner which can be a fun-yet-stressful time of the year. It's also a time of year when motivation to stick to our wellness goals can be at an all-time low. Here are a few tips for staying on track with your goals and keeping that drive to succeed!

1. Have an Accountability Plan!

Staying accountable to yourself or others is a great way to stay motivated with any goal. Some like to keep themselves accountable by tracking their progress and planning ahead for their goals. I am one to use this method because I love checking off my to-do lists! Others prefer a buddy system of sorts with family and/or friends helping them stay accountable to their goals. If others around you know your goals, they can encourage you during challenging times when motivation may be lacking.

2. Prioritize Yourself!

Anyone who knows me knows that I like my rest! I am a firm believer that sleep and self-care can determine many of our other daily habits. If we are tired, we may not stay consistent with our workouts. If we are stressed, we may tend to overeat, eat too little, or find that going out to eat more often is the easier option. It is OK to prioritize yourself! Treating yourself to some extra sleep or self-care during the holidays may be just the thing you’ve been needing all along.

3. Think Positive!

I know it may sound cliché, but this really can make a difference! We have the power to control our positive and negative thoughts and affirmations. Sometimes we can be our hardest critic or get caught up in negativity around us. What are some things that may help you see the positive in a situation? I am doing some positive self-reflection this holiday season. Each day in December I am writing down one thing that I am thankful for or something that went well in 2018 and placing the papers in my Christmas stocking. On January 1st, 2019 I plan to read all about the positives that happened in 2018 and bring those good vibes into the new year!

4. Have Fun!

“Oh what fun it is to ride on a one-horse open sleigh!” One of the easiest ways to stay motivated during the holidays is to continue doing activities that make you happy. Make time for the things you like to do, or try something new and festive along the way. You may just surprise yourself with a new holiday tradition, like my positivity stocking mentioned above!

We all know what best motivates us. Staying accountable, getting enough rest, thinking positive, and having fun are my four tips for having a happy and healthy holiday season. What about for you? Share your tips in the comments below!

Be Well,
