Enjoying the Time Before School Starts

by Joanna

Summer is winding down. Kids are worked up and anxious about school starting.  Parents are worked up and anxious about school starting.  It can be hard not to get caught up in it all and maintain your sanity.  Looking for some things to do in order to keep the peace and help everyone feel a little at ease in the transition?  Coach Joanna to the rescue with some great (active!) solutions! Because let’s face it; even though you’re looking forward to getting the kids back in school and out of your hair, you’ll miss the time you get to spend with them so should probably make it count.

Here are my best ideas:

  • Go for the longest bike ride of the summer
  • Put up the tent in the backyard - and sleep in it overnight

  • Have a bean bag toss tournament
  • Go to a drive-in movie theater
  • Hit up as many parks as you can (check out Coach Kayla’s blog with an interactive park map)
  • Play baseball with water balloons
  • Go on a picnic

  • Learn a new card game
  • Gaze at the stars, find constellations, planets, and satellites with the free app called SkyView
  • Check out some nearby State or County Parks
  • Try something new at the farmer’s market
  • Experience the Minnesota State Fair if you never have
  • Play Kubb

What other ideas do you have to keep your family active for the rest of the summer?  School will be here before you know it - let’s make the last of these days count!
