Clean Your Shoes

by Melissa

Smelly shoes and workout gear are part of a healthy and active lifestyle.  These things can get expensive, and that is why it is so important to take good care of the items you have!

Last week I was cleaning out my front closet that houses all of mine and my husband’s shoes and winter coats.  This closet is the first thing you pass when you walk through the front door.  As I pulled pair after pair out, I noticed a musty smell coming from the coat closet.  After some investigation I realized that it was coming from my workout shoes.

I always keep three pairs on hand.  My newest pair of workout shoes is usually for running, and going to the gym.  The other two are old running and gym shoes that I use for my daily walks as well as on days when I am out and about but do not want to be too dressy.  I usually hold on to these older shoes for at least a year, sometimes longer, so you can imagine after that much use they could use a good cleaning to preserve them for even longer use!

Follow these step by step instructions for cleaning your workout shoes!!

1.       Use a soft brush to brush away any dirt from the surface of the shoe.

2.       Remove insoles (if applicable) and laces to wash separately in warm water with mild detergent.

3.       Moisten the shoe and clean with a soft scrub brush to work soap into dirty areas.

4.       Rinse with clean water and repeat as necessary.

5.       Allow shoes to air dry.

There you go!

What are some other methods you have seen to clean shoes?
