Beating Boredom

by Melissa

When I don’t have anything important to be doing, I find that my mind wanders to the fridge and what I could eat for a snack. It is important to recognize hunger vs. boredom because if your body does not need those calories, chances are you will gain weight and be farther away from your goals!

Some great tips to beat boredom include:

Go for a walk.

The repetitive motion of walking combined with the scenery of an evening stroll can help fight boredom (and release those feel good endorphins),. In the long run, you will thank yourself for being active!

Drink your water.

We all know how important our water intake is, so why is it so hard to drink enough? Carry a water bottle with you where ever you go, add sliced fruit to your water, and be sure to drink about 64 ounces or more per day. Many times, our brains trick us into thinking we are hungry, when we are actually thirsty!

Keep yourself busy.

You know that big pile of laundry over there in the corner? Of all of those papers that need to be organized and filed away? Well those can actually help you beat boredom and stay away from unnecessary snacking! Keep yourself busy during down times, and most likely you will stay away from the kitchen and making poor choices! On top of that, your home will be spick and span all the time!

Communicate your goals to family members or roommates.

One of the most essential things you can do to help you stay on track, is to tell the people closest to you what your goals are. Ask them to help keep you accountable to your goals by cheering you on and supporting you in times of need! Ask them to go for walks with you or spend time in the kitchen prepping food!
