How to get 10,000 Steps a Day

by Melissa

10,000 steps seem like a lot. On average, that is nearly 5 miles every day. In order to get the minimum amount of recommended steps, 10,000 steps seem to be the sweet spot. Can you do more? Great! Can’t quite get 10,000? Well read on, here are a few ways that I force myself to get more steps every day. Even the small mundane tasks add up quickly!

  1. Walk to your Mailbox. So many of us are in the convenient habit of stopping at the mailbox while we are in our cars at the end of the driveway. I counted how many extra steps I get, and believe it or not it was an extra 150 steps! Give it a try and find out how many more you can get.

  2. Set a timer every hour to get up a walk for five minutes. Whether it is walking to the water fountain or just down the hall and back, getting up and moving is better than not getting up at all!

  3. Keep yourself busy at night or during downtime. As much as I hate laundry, and I mean HATE it, doing the laundry and any other household task will keep me moving, instead of sitting down in front of the TV to catch up on all my reality show drama.

  4. It seems obvious, but go for a walk! Even if you already worked out for the day or you didn’t quite finish everything you wanted for the day, a walk will rejuvenate you and maybe even make you more efficient at your to-do list!

  5. Finally, include the whole family! Go outside and play tag with the kids, take a family walk or even do a scavenger hunt at a local park!

Always remember, moving more is better than not moving at all! Purchasing a pedometer will help you stay on track to your 10,000 steps!

Here are some great options to explore what pedometer works for you!
