This weekend, I’ve offered to host an afternoon barbeque at my house. I know, it’s a bit early to start the barbeque season. In fact, I’ve got my fingers crossed that my trusty grill will fire up after this long winter.  But I’m a sucker for parties and I certainly miss spending time out on the deck, enjoying good food and friends!

As always, I want to offer some healthy options for the day, so I’m planning on buying apples, strawberries and bananas. To make things more interesting, though, I’m going to make this super-simple tropical fruit dip from a recipe by the American Heart Association.

If you give this a try, let me know what you think!

Yields: 8

Ingredients:
6 ounces fat-free, sugar-free vanilla yogurt
2 ounces light cream cheese, softened
½ 8-ounce can crushed pineapple in it own juice, well drained
½ teaspoon grated orange zest
½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:
1. In a medium mixing bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the yogurt and cream cheese until smooth.
2. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Chill until serving.

I may make this for a family gathering this weekend - what could be served with this, to dip?

Hi again, yankeedoodle! I tend to use this as a fruit dip. I personally love dipping apples and bananas. However, if you're looking for a variety of "dippers", you could also try serving it with graham crackers and cubed angel food cake.

Thanks for the comment and I hope the dip is a hit at your gathering this weekend!
