I really enjoy my job. Hey, I get to write fun and interesting posts for my readers every day! Who could complain about that?! In fact, I think that most people also enjoy their jobs. However, sitting at a desk for most of the day can make it more challenging to keep weight off.

Last December, when I found that I had to move up to the next notch on my belt, I knew it was time to buckle down. If you are in the same boat as I was, here are some ideas for keeping the work weight off.

Don’t skip meals. You may think that by not eating during the day you will keep the weight off, but this may just set you up for a binge later. Food is fuel for your body and you should try to eat every 3-4 hours to keep your energy levels up. That said, cookies and cupcakes from the break room won’t provide you with much energy. Opt for foods high in fiber and lower in empty calories. Think of fruit, veggies, pretzels, almonds, or yogurt. There are so many healthy options to keep you going throughout the day.

Put down the phone. If you need to talk with someone at work, get up and walk to their office. If you wear a pedometer you can keep track of how many steps you take during the day and try to increase that amount weekly.

Sip away. We often mistake thirst for hunger. Make sure to drink enough water throughout the day. If you don’t like the taste of water, throw in a slice of lemon or lime. Coffee, tea, juice can also help you fill your daily quotient.

Look around for support. Here at Group Health Cooperative, we have a great health promotion program that helps keep me motivated about my health. Check with your company to see if they offer any incentives or programs that will help keep you on track. More and more employers are finding that healthy employees increase productivity and decrease health care costs.

Try out some of these tips and let me know what you think! What else do you do to keep yourself at a healthy weight while on the job?
