As a conscious consumer I like to be aware of what foods are best for me. This means that when I’m at the grocery store, I am always seeking out foods with the best health benefits. Ultimately, this is all part of my goal to a healthy diet.  Recently, with this goal in mind, I’ve decided to incorporate organic foods into my meals.

I certainly have an appreciation for the low levels of pesticides and other contaminants in organic foods. However, one dilemma I’ve uncovered is how to balance eating healthy organic foods with my budget. While I’d love to eat all organic foods, they tend to cost more.  As a result, I did a little investigative work to discover which foods are best to buy organically. Here’s what I found:

Top 10 Produce to Buy Organically:
• Peaches
• Apples
• Peppers
• Celery
• Nectarines
• Strawberries
• Cherries
• Lettuce
• Grapes
• Pears

If the cost of organic food is hitting your budget the wrong way, just make sure you always wash and scrub your produce with dish soap to remove some of the pesticides that remain on the surface. You can also peel your fruits and vegetables to remove the pesticides that remain in the skins.

Additionally, there are non-organic, conventionally grown foods options that contain the low pesticide loads:

•  Fruit: pineapple, mango, kiwi, banana, papaya, blueberries, watermelon
• Vegetables: onions, avocado, sweet corn, sweet peas, asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, eggplant

Although there are some benefits to buying foods that are grown organically, you don’t have to break the bank to do so.  With so many different options in today’s food market, it’s nice to clarify some of the chaos.  Do you know of any other healthy organic or nonorganic options?
