There are a lot of different diets out there, as I’m sure you are aware. In fact, it seems like anytime I turn on TV, a new diet is making waves in Hollywood! With so many diets, though, most of us are left wondering what is the difference between all of them? Which one works the best?
When it comes down to it, most will all will aid in weight loss. The biggest reason for this is that when people choose to start a diet they pay far more attention to what they are eating – more than they do at other times. In the name of science and experimentation, I decided to follow a specific eating plan to see if I could and track how I felt. To do this, I kept a food journal. Below are some interesting observations that I wanted to share.
Even before the first day, I was feeling a little bit of anxiety that I wouldn’t be able to follow the plan and not eat my normal food. Even before I started I wanted to quit!
The first day after breakfast I thought I was hungry, but I think it was more of a perceived hunger than actual hunger. After lunch, I thought about food and how much our society revolves around it. Seeing food as a way to sustain life rather than for feel-good purposes makes it a little easier. The good tasting foods are the ones that usually get us into trouble, unfortunately.
One night during the week, I thought I needed to eat, and I had to stop and ask myself if I was truly hungry or if I just wanted to eat something. I concluded that I really wasn’t hungry which stopped me from consuming unnecessary calories.
Later in the week I had a particularly bad day and ended up going through the fast food drive thru. Big mistake. I felt sick that night. I don’t know if it’s because of the high fat, greasy food, but it was enough to make me not want to eat it again.
When the week was over I reviewed my notes realized that it was possible to change my eating habits. One thing that really helped me throughout this whole process was journaling. Writing down food intake has been proven to be one of the best things you can do when trying to reach certain goals through diet.
