Well, the holiday season is over and the diet damage has been done. If you’re feeling a bit guilty about throwing dietary caution to the wind during this past holiday season, you’re not alone. I mean, to be fair, I probably didn’t need that 3rd piece of pie at the family Christmas gathering. The peer-pressure got to me though, and before I knew it Grandma convinced me that I simply had to try another slice. I can’t say no to Grandma!..

Have you been following the news lately? If so, you may have heard about the huge recall of Slim-Fast ready-to-drink products. All Slim-Fast shakes are being recalled due to a potential contamination with Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that may cause diarrhea and possibly nausea and/or vomiting. According to a Unilever news release, the possibility of severe adverse health effects is remote. Unilever says it issued the recall "out of an abundance of caution"...

I was at a friend’s house the other night for a casual holiday party, and of course there were lots of snacks being offered. I overheard somebody make the following comment when they noticed a large bowl of mixed nuts: “I need to stay away from those because I’m on a diet.”...

Every so often, I like to treat myself to a cookie, bowl of ice cream or glass of wine. I figure if I feed myself nutritious foods 90% of the time, I can relax 10% of the time and indulge my craving. Fortunately, I also enjoy exercising on most days of the week. I wasn’t always this dedicated to exercise, though. When I was younger, I considered the trip from the couch to the refrigerator my daily walk!..

Diets are popular. Really popular. It seems like every time I turn around, a new fad diet is making waves in Hollywood and everyone is talking about it! What I’ve found though, is that most people try diet after diet, constantly searching for the perfect solution to weight loss...

I’m an advocate for partnering with a primary care physician to stay healthy, so when my mom mentioned that it had been a couple of years since her last visit with her physician, I wasted no time in convincing her to make an appointment. She was a little uncomfortable going by herself, so I accompanied her to the doctor’s office. Overall, the doctor was very pleased with how well my mother had been taking care of herself. But he told her that she had high blood pressure...

At the gym I frequent, there’s been a lot of chatter about the exercise program P90X. I know I’ve written about home work-outs before, but I thought I should go into a little detail on this new program. For anyone unfamiliar with this program, it claims that you are guaranteed a ripped body in 90 days. How does this work? Allow me to explain...

Whenever I entertain and have people over for dinner, I always make sure I serve up a colorful plate. I like to include a wide range of colors in the fruits and vegetables I serve. But did you know that there’s more than just a visual benefit to including a rainbow of colors in your meals?..

When the weather starts to get warm, one of my favorite treats is ice cream. However, it’s not the best idea to have a big ice cream cone every day – the extra fat and calories would start to add up pretty quickly! I was pretty excited to come across this recipe, though. Not only does this help curb my ice cream craving, it controls portion size at the same time...

Who loves the movie Top Gun? Or rather I should say, who DOESN’T love the movie Top Gun? “I feel the need…the need for speed!” What a great movie. But, I didn’t want to talk about movies today. I wanted to talk about the danger zones we have when it comes to overeating, and well, you can see where I digressed. Almost all of us have danger zones...
