A few months ago, my cousin told me that she really wanted to lose 15 pounds. She has an awesome trip to the Bahamas planned at the end of April, and she was really motivated to make some healthy changes. It made me happy to learn that she was determined to keep the weight off this time too... [More]

I eat a lot of broccoli, usually steamed or raw with a little low calorie dressing. Sometimes the same old thing can get a little boring. My coworker came in the other day raving about this new broccoli recipe she came up with. I tried it, and I have to say, I may never eat broccoli any other way!.. [More]

It seems that no matter where I turn, I’m always seeing advertisements for the latest must-have supplement. I’ve even had people tell me miracle stories of how their friend’s cousin’s neighbor took this one supplement and it solved all sorts of health problems. Now, it’s normal to think that if it worked for someone, it will work for you, right? And because it’s “all natural” then it must be completely safe, right? Not quite... [More]

Spring in Wisconsin can take an awfully long time to take hold. For instance, the other day we had temperatures near 50 degrees! I was completely ready to throw my winter clothes into storage and start dusting off the summer stuff! Unfortunately, the next day we got 7 inches of snow. During this time of year, I often find myself struggling to get my work-out in. Mentally, I’m ready to move my routine outdoors. Realistically, though, we’ve got a bit of time before that consistently happens... [More]

During the Lenten season, you can find some great deals on fish in the grocery stores. I always try to take advantage of these sales and fit fish into my menu. Filled with omega-3 fatty acids, oily fish like salmon make an excellent addition to a healthy diet. Below is a recipe I found through WebMD. It scored high for me due to its ease of preparation and great nutrition.. [More]

This holiday season, out of all of the gifts I received, my favorite was a pedometer from my parents. Do they know me or what? Pedometers are small electronic devices that record the number of steps a person takes. I just clip mine to my belt at work and it keeps track of all my walking! If you are in the market for a pedometer, you can pay as little as $15 dollars or as much as $100 for one with a wristwatch that counts your steps... [More]

Life can be very unpredictable. In some cases, that can be great! For example, today I went to the vending machine to get a granola bar. To my surprise, I ended up with two! I don’t mind that kind of unpredictability. However, often the unpredictable is not quite so wonderful. And occasionally, the unpredictable can turn into an emergency. Do you know what you would do in an emergency?.. [More]

It’s highly documented that men and women are by nature very different creatures. As John Gray, PhD so famously put it: “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”. While Dr. Gray focused on the way men and women perceive relationships, his statement rings true in a number of areas. Did you know that men and women may even differ in symptoms of a heart attack?..
